Strengthening
Our Marae
Four marae. Two days.
Stronger marae futures together.
Stronger governance.
Thriving marae.
We’re bringing together trustees and whānau from four Wairarapa marae for two days of shared learning, practical governance skills and planning for the future of our marae.
Building on the insights from each marae’s Governance Aromatawai, we’ll share experiences, strengthen our understanding and explore practical ways to support our marae and the next generation of leaders.
Whether you’re a current trustee or a whānau member keen to learn and contribute, nau mai haere mai. No previous governance experience is needed.
Four marae, coming together
Each marae brings its own history, aspirations and strengths. This wānanga creates space to learn together while respecting the distinct responsibilities and decisions of each marae.
Three pathways to stronger governance
Practical conversations and activities designed to help each marae move from understanding to action.
Our responsibilities
- Who does what — and why it matters
- Mapping trustees, committees and operational roles
- Clarifying governance and administration responsibilities
Strategic priorities
- Choosing priorities that balance whānau and marae outcomes with practical foundations
- Comparing project ideas through a decision-making framework
- Turning priorities into next steps
Succession & continuity
- Growing capability across our whānau
- Understanding trustee numbers and the skills we need
- Strengthening induction and succession pathways
The Whare Tūpuna Governance Framework
Just as each part of the whare has its own purpose and supports the whole, effective marae governance depends on different responsibilities working together.
Our wānanga draws on three dimensions of the Whare Tūpuna Framework: Tekoteko (responsibilities), Tāhuhu (strategic priorities) and Pou Tuarongo (succession and continuity).
